Instructions for Interactive, Roundtable, and Research Presentations

(60-min, 30-min and 25 min sessions)

The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning features wired and wireless presentation options throughout each of its presentation classrooms. Explore each section below for a description of how to connect your device, who to contact for help and how to begin your presentation.

Connecting to in-room technology

For presenters with a ucalgary.ca email:

  • Step 1: Log into the lectern computer and present as you would in any campus classroom.
  • Step 2: We advise you to have your presentation materials accessible in multiple locations as a precaution (e.g. USB drive, cloud storage or your laptop).

For external presenters

  • Option 1: Bring your presentation on a USB stick. A conference team member will need to log into the lectern computer on your behalf.
  • Option 2: Bring your laptop and connect it to the lectern. All adapters are available at the lecterns.

External attendees can access the AirUC-Guest Wi-Fi (the open network Wi-Fi).

Additional information

  • Classroom lecterns have USB-C, HDMI, and wireless connection options. We encourage you to come prepared with all equipment/adapters that you may require.
  • Each room has a lectern, desktop computer, handheld microphone, clip-on lavalier microphone, and moveable whiteboards with markers and erasers.
  • You are welcome to bring your own presentation clicker.
  • The microphones are already connected and simply need to be switched on. You can only use one microphone at a time.

All presenters can connect wirelessly via AirMedia to the media carts using a laptop, smartphone, or tablet. Once connected, any type of media or presentation can be shared from your device using the UCalgary Wi-Fi network. Each cart has a 55" high-definition display with standard 1920x1080 px resolution.

External attendees can access the AirUC-Guest Wi-Fi ((the open network Wi-Fi).

  1. Connect your device to the Airuc-Secure Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open a web browser such as Chrome or Safari.
  3. Look for the IP address (sample .10.80.66.xx) printed on the bottom left corner of the classroom cart you are assigned.
  4. Enter only those numbers into the search bar on your web browser.
  5. This will take you to the AirMedia installation window. Follow the on-screen instructions to install AirMedia.
  6. Once connected, your device’s screen will display on the classroom cart.

You will have a table with AC and USB-A power in front of the cart for your device and anything else to support your presentation.

Creating Mixed Media Presentations

  • Use any presentation program (e.g., PowerPoint, Canva, Google Slides).
  • Share slides, videos, websites or any media that can be shared from your personal device.
  • Static images should be at least 1920x1080 pixels.
  • For videos, play directly from your device or upload to a video server like YuJa or YouTube.
  • Choose the style and format that best suits your topic.

Tips for Presentation Design

  • Start with a PowerPoint presentation for easy display.
  • Ensure content is clear, concise, and legible for a broad audience.
  • Avoid blocks of text; use larger fonts and high-resolution graphics.
  • Utilize mixed media by switching between slides, videos, and graphics.
  • Make your presentation easily repeatable due to the casual session format.
