Starting your grants project

Once the adjudication is complete for all applications, successful applicants will receive an email with a notice of award and a project request form to set up a project with Research Services. With that form, Research Services needs proof of your ethics certification. Once that has been provided, you can open an account with Research Services.

Next steps

Congratulations on receiving a University of Calgary Teaching and Learning Grants program award! Here is what you need to do next:

Award recipients should immediately contact cfreb@ucalgary.ca to find out if they’ll need to apply for ethics certification for working with human subjects. (most Teaching and Learning Grants program projects will need this certification).

Researchers planning on collecting data in the fall term should plan on having their application to the CFREB submitted no later than August 1st (this process normally takes four to five weeks, and any delay will delay the release of unrestricted funds).

The University of Calgary Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board (CFREB) will help you through the process.

You'll first need to create an account with IRISS and complete the CORE tutorial, both listed on the CFREB's website. That page also offers helpful information on the process, starting with this document on the steps involved. If you have any questions, please contact cfreb@ucalgary.ca.

Once any required ethics certification is completed, the University of Calgary Research Services Office (RSO) will help recipients set up the project approvals and accounting for their budgets.

The email from tlgrants@ucalgary.ca with your notice of award will explain how to prepare your materials for Research Services.

The project request package must include the following materials:

  1. Project request form (sent by tlgrants@ucalgary.ca), completely filled out
    1. If your project includes the design of an Open Educational Resource (OER), please use this project request form.
  2. Notice of award (sent by tlgrants@ucalgary.ca)
  3. Copy of the approved version of the grant application, including the budget and signatures of consent
  4. Any required ethics certifications

Questions related to the preparation of these materials can be directed to finance@ucalgary.ca. Recipients will forward project request packages to the attention of the Grants Assistant, Grants and Awards Division, in Research Services (see the Research Services web page for contact information). Once the materials have been reviewed and approved by Research Services, they will be forwarded to Research Accounting, which will set up the project and assign a project number.
