Strategy 1: Cultivate Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Design learning experiences that reflect diverse perspectives, address systemic barriers and validate students’ identities, backgrounds, and ways of knowing.
Strategy 2: Establish Community and Presence
Build a strong sense of belonging through intentional community‑building activities, clear course structure and consistent instructor visibility and engagement.
Strategy 3: Design Accessible Course Content
Ensure course materials and learning activities are accessible, flexible and easy to navigate so all students can fully participate, regardless of ability or circumstance.
Strategy 4: Model Compassion and Communication
Support student confidence and trust through clear expectations, flexible policies, empathetic communication and constructive feedback.
Strategy 5: Promote Mental Wellbeing and Health
Reduce stress and anxiety by using low‑stakes assessments, normalizing help‑seeking and proactively connecting students to support resources.
Strategy 6: Facilitate Difficult Discussions and Respectful Dialogue
Create conditions for thoughtful, respectful engagement with challenging topics through clear guidelines, preparation and skilled facilitation.
Strategy 7: Address Disruptive and Harmful Behaviours
Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment by setting clear expectations, preparing response strategies and addressing disruptions with care and consistency.
Together, these strategies offer a holistic framework for creating learning environments where students feel supported, connected and able to thrive.
