UCalgary recognized as one of Alberta’s top employers for 8 years in a row
The University of Calgary has been recognized as one of Alberta’s top employers for the eighth straight year.
“Such recognition by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers wouldn’t be possible without the strength, resilience and commitment of faculty and staff to help UCalgary reach its goals,” says President Ed McCauley. “Despite the challenges of the last two years, employees continue to go above and beyond and strive for excellence.
Resilient, supportive and caring people are at the core of our university. It is their dedication to each other and our community that makes UCalgary a great place to work.
Alberta’s Top Employers is an annual competition organized by Canada’s Top 100 Employers and compiled by MediaCorp Inc. The award recognizes leaders in their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
Here are a few reasons why UCalgary was selected as one of Alberta’s Top Employers for 2021:
- UCalgary helps employees save for the future with contributions to a defined benefit pension plan and offers retirement-planning assistance, as well as phased-in work options to help employees nearing retirement transition.
- UCalgary maintains a detailed Campus Mental Health Strategy that includes awareness events for students, staff and faculty, workshops, training and resources like LinkedIn Learning, an annual wellness fair, and a dedicated UFlourish Week to support and build positive mental health. Staff and faculty also have access to a mental-health consultant who can connect them to resources both on and off campus and to the Homewood Health Employee and Family Assistance Plan, a confidential service available to employees and their dependents.
- UCalgary offers a variety of professional-development opportunities including in-house apprenticeships, leadership-development programs, and the UNavigate career management program to help employees identify strengths, interests and skill gaps.
- UCalgary has made a variety of supports and resources available to faculty and staff during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety and health of our community.
“Change is a continual process,” McCauley says, “and UCalgary is committed to creating a positive, inclusive work environment and providing employees with tools to help them succeed, both inside and outside of the workplace. With the help of the innovative ideas of employees, UCalgary can continue to be an exceptional place to work.
“We continue to change and improve our workshops, training, professional development and resources for our employees to ensure they are supported in all areas of life,” he continues. “Research, learning, entrepreneurship and innovation thrive when our UCalgary community members’ well-being is supported.”
