Prof featured in film to screen at COP28
Dr. Stephanie Chipeur has narrated Disability + Creativity: At the Intersection of Climate Change, a film by the National accessArts Centre (NaAC), Canada’s largest disability arts organization, which will be screened at COP28 UAE taking place November 30 - December 9, 2023.
The film features the latest works from the NaAC artist community that reflect on place, land, and the impacts of climate change. In 2023, the Harvard University Center for the Environment shared that persons with disabilities are two to four times more likely to die or be injured in climate change emergencies including heatwaves, hurricanes, and floods.
"Canadian law and policy on evacuations, immigration and the built environment limit people with disabilities from escaping the effects of climate related emergencies," says Chipeur. "The disability community is not just disproportionately impacted by climate change, but we are uniquely positioned to respond to it. The artists featured in this documentary address broader global themes in how we can process collective grief, cope with change and honour our connections to the natural environment."
