Congratulations to Hany Ibrahim
Hany Ibrahim successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, entitled “Love in the Writing of Ibn ‘Arabī,” on Friday, 10th July. Hany’s thesis focused on the topic of love in Islam as it is depicted in the work of Muhyī al dīn Ibn ‘Arabī, a medieval Spanish philosopher and theologian who lived from 1165-1240 C.E.
Hany undertook a hermeneutic study in three chapters of his thesis of the diverse dimensions of love as they are depicted in Ibn ‘Arabi’s many works. However, he then selected Ch. 178 in Ibn ‘Arabi’s mature metaphysical volume entitled, The Meccan Openings, for special attention in his final chapter. (This book is respected by many as ‘Ibn ‘Arabi’s finest work.) It is here that Hany provides new and original insights into aspects of Ibn ‘Arabī’s dimensions of love.
