Learning Module: Critical Reflection

Critical reflection asks students to bridge knowledge and experience through metacognition. In doing so, critical reflection challenges students to reconsider their previously held beliefs, conventions, and values. It is essential for guiding, deepening, and documenting experiential learning (Ash & Clayton, 2009).  

This online module was developed to introduce the use of critical reflection to faculty and staff. This includes but is not limited to university professors, course instructors and co-curricular staff.  

• Identify the value of critical reflection as a tool for facilitating specific learning outcomes from experiential learning opportunities

• Design critical reflection prompts that enhance extant experiential learning opportunities

• Create authentic assessment tools for evaluating critical reflection assignments

• Apply critical reflection principles and practices to digital spaces
