Conference Collaborative Intentions

The 2024 University of Calgary Conference on Postsecondary Learning and Teaching provides a unique opportunity for educators to explore Courageous Practices: Equity, Diversity and Belonging in Postsecondary Education. This year, the pre-conference (April 24) will be hosted in-person at the University of Calgary, followed by 2 days (April 25-26) of online conference sessions.

We continue to discover new ways of connecting and engaging in both in-person and online spaces. We see this conference as an opportunity for knowledge sharing, relationship building, reciprocity, and respect.

There are tensions during this time. We recognize the challenges people from marginalized and equity-deserving groups face every day, challenges that require collective, sustained effort from all people to embrace courageous actions, publicly and privately, to make change. Through this conference, we aspire for attendees to bring curiosity, understanding, generosity, and kindness to each other, as we engage in difficult conversations that will hopefully inspire and provoke change. This work takes collective and sustained effort.

As with most conferences, things may not always go as planned.  Conference organizers, keynotes, presenters, and participants have the best of intentions and are working to create an engaging and meaningful experience for all. In the spirit of growth and learning, we appreciate your patience and will be seeking your feedback throughout the conference.

We are committed to ensuring access to the conference system and content for 30 days for all registrants. The online concurrent and keynote conference sessions on April 25 and 26 will be recorded, unless otherwise specified by the session presenter. While the recording will be focused on the presenter, it is possible that attendees’ voices, images or electronically submitted questions may be captured in the recording. The audio and visual recording of these sessions includes documents and materials exchanged or viewed during the live event, such as slides, questions asked, and poll answers provided anonymously by participants during the live event, the closed captioning transcript, and the chat function transcript. If you are a participant in these sessions and do not want to be captured during the concurrent sessions, please ensure your camera and microphone are turned off. Small break-out sessions are not included in recordings. These recordings will subsequently remain on the Conference platform for 30 days, with access permitted to registered conference participants only.

We value your participation and commitment to ensuring a positive learning experience for all members of our conference community, including Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers, keynote speakers, session presenters, moderators, and participants.  Recording of in-person or online sessions is not permitted by conference participants. Posting selected slides or reflections related to the conference on social media helps promote scholarly knowledge dissemination and engagement and is permitted unless the session speaker has indicated otherwise.
