Biography
Duaa is a Department of Community Health Sciences graduate student specializing in Health Services Research. She has a deep interest in interdisciplinary approaches to social determinants of health, patient advocacy, and complex health-related topics.
Duaa is looking to advance her investigation skills and build upon core research components such as knowledge translation, patient and provider education, academic writing, research design and methods, and enhancing her communication with important health service stakeholders. She has a passion for education and is seeking a career that will challenge her as a learner, teacher, and care provider. Currently, Duaa is exploring applications of her research and investigation skills in different industries and roles, focusing on topic areas regarding factors influencing individuals' health statuses to expand her scope of practice.
Projects
Working toward creating new pathways for neurodivergent students seeking transition to careers and professional success beyond their student experiences. Engaging with the campus community through research and evaluation to address the direct and indirect barriers that prevent students from taking full advantage of WIL experiences.
Working with Dr. Sachin R. Pendharkar to recruit patients for a wait times study comparing obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) symptoms, patient satisfaction, treatment adherence and acceptance, and confidence with care among OSA patients who have received either early care management (>1 mo.) or normal care management (6 mo.). Leading the qualitative portion of the study, conducting interviews and thematic analysis to explore patient perspectives on OSA wait times and their care experience.
