As a young man, Frank O’Dea was homeless, living on the streets, panhandling for nickels and dimes.
Today, he is a celebrated business person and author of two books. Often referred to as a “serial entrepreneur,” Frank O’Dea is best known as a founder of the Second Cup chain of coffee stores and Pro-shred Security, an innovative document destruction business with international operations.
O’Dea’s success has come from creating game-changing businesses where he has developed new market spaces, allowing him to set his own prices and his own rules. This approach, which is known as Blue Ocean Strategy enables any organization to create its own new market space - and make the competition irrelevant.
In the not-for-profit arena he also co-found Street Kids International and the Canadian Landmine Foundation. His current projects include developing affordable housing in Sao Paulo, Brazil and in Thompson, Manitoba.
Now an Officer in the Order of Canada, he tells his inspiring story of triumph in the face of adversity in his best-selling book When All You Have is Hope.
