The Teaching Online Program (TOP) is an online immersive program for instructors who want to get started with or enhance their online teaching and learning skills. Spanning over 6 weeks, each strand of the program is designed to provide you with theoretical, practical and personalized experience.
TOP I. (The first three weeks) is the first strand of the TOP program where participants work individually and in small groups, spending the majority of the time working through discussions, activities and some scheduled live synchronous events. Participants work through the program as a cohort interacting with other participants and facilitators, use a variety of technologies and strategies to enhance online learning, and contemplate how online teaching and learning relates to their own context. Topics covered in TOP I include exploring online learning, online student assessment, and planning online activities.
Once TOP I is completed, participants can continue to TOP II.
TOP II. (The last three weeks) is the second strand of TOP that expands on the theory and skills introduced in TOP I. Applying skills and knowledge from TOP I, participants will self-direct themselves through a project-based learning model to plan and develop an online creation of their choice for an online course. The facilitators will monitor the process by providing opportunities for self-assessment, debriefs, feedback, and reflection.
Successful completion of TOP I is required before continuing to TOP II. Each strand is designed to give participants flexibility, practical skills, and knowledge in both developing and teaching an online course in higher education.
