The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Foundations Program for Postdocs invites postdocs across all disciplines interested in SoTL to join us for our fourth discussion-based session, Guiding Principles in SoTL.
As in all sessions, we will take some time to become acquainted, to discuss/review what SoTL is, and to reflect upon the session’s reading as foundational to SoTL research and practice.
We will be discussing Peter Felten’s (2013), “Principles of good practice in SoTL.” In this piece, Felten articulates principles that can be used as guideposts for developing and refining both small and larger scale SoTL projects. Felten maintains that they can help to “clarify and demystify SoTL” and can “serve as a heuristic for assessing work” in the field (p. 121). In this fourth session, we will consider our SoTL planning in light of these principles of good practice.
