The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Foundations Program for Postdocs invites postdocs across all disciplines interested in SoTL to join us for our second discussion-based session, Teaching Problems and SoTL.
As in all sessions, we will take some time to become acquainted, to discuss/review what SoTL is, and to reflect upon the session’s reading as foundational to SoTL research and practice.
In this session, we will talk about Randy Bass’s (1999), “The scholarship of teaching: What’s the problem?” Bass describes how differently problems in research and teaching are taken up, and walks readers through the teaching experiences that led to his engagement with SoTL. Bass’s reflective piece is an excellent catalyst for discussion about our own engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Session two’s reading is:
Bass, R. (1999). The scholarship of teaching: What’s the problem? Inventio, 1(1).
*Please note that you are only asked to read Bass's article. This link connects you to several articles, but we will only be discussing the first - the one by Bass.*
This workshop can be used toward the 2017-2018 SoTL Foundations for Postdocs badge.
