Open Classroom Week: EDUC 430

Open Classroom Week gives instructors the opportunity to observe what others are doing in their classrooms and engage in conversations about teaching with their colleagues. A number of instructors will open their classroom doors to allow their colleagues to watch them teach and observe their approaches to different classroom settings, teaching practices, technology applications and learning experiences.

EDUC 430 - Pragmatics of Learning and Teaching
Location: TRA 101 (portable outside EdT/EdC block)
Instructor: Dr. Katherine Mueller
Course description: Examines the concomitant requirements within which teachers operate. The major components that will be addressed include the ways in which teachers work within the parameters of prescribed curricula and assessment requirements, follow system and school policies, participate in team teaching and school culture, and reflect one’s work, values and goals.

Observers can expect to see teaching strategies including: Active learning / interactive lecture

  • Students in this class are specializing in Language Teaching (French, Spanish, other languages, English Language Learners), so some of the work groups may be speaking languages other than English as they prepare their group activities.
