Contemplative Pedagogy

Contemplative pedagogy is the integration of meditation, mindfulness, and other reflective practices into higher education as a complement to critical reasoning with the goal of rebalancing liberal education to include head and heart, body and mind. This experiential workshop will introduce you to contemplative pedagogy classroom practices like mindfulness that integrate mental health skills and well-being into everyday classroom experiences while enhancing students' capacity for mental clarity, focus, concentration, insight, compassion and creativity.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

1. Create or maintain your own mindfulness practice in order to support yourself and a more mindful classroom culture
2. Intentionally integrate contemplative approaches for transformative learning into your courses with resources provided
3. Recognize and take advantage of opportunities to practice mindfulness in the classroom "on the fly."

This workshop is offered to support the vision and work of the campus mental health strategy teaching and learning subcommittee
