College of Discovery, Creativity and Innovation

The College of Discovery, Creativity and Innovation (CDCI) is the Taylor Institute’s arm devoted to providing and supporting different types of learning experiences that bring together students, faculty and community through discovery, creativity, and innovation, cutting across the normal boundaries within the university.

Global Challenges
Take the lead in exploring complex, global issues, ask important questions and solve problems that mean something to you in UNIV 201: Global Challenges Inquiry I, and UNIV 203: Global Challenges Inquiry II.

Oxford Map the System Challenge
Map the System is a global competition that challenges you to think differently about social and environmental change. Tackling global challenges starts with understanding a problem and its wider context, rather than jumping straight into a business plan or an idea for a quick fix. This competition asks you to select a social or environmental issue and to explore, probe, and research all the connecting elements and factors around it.

PURE Awards
PURE awards provide financial support to University of Calgary undergraduates to conduct research for 8, 12 or 16 weeks between May and August, making it possible for students to work with University of Calgary researchers to learn how research projects are developed and conducted, and how research results can contribute to new knowledge and solve problems in a field of research and in society.
